I have discovered this nice sport for lazy owners in 2003. Windhounds people do not like to hear it but if the dog is running himself (I have seen several time owners of other dogs to run whole route with the dog), the owner brings the dog to the start line, then the dog has nice run following the lure (the route can be up to 1000 meters long) and finally the owner makes few steps to the end line to catch the dog or to take him off the lure. At least this is my description of this sport as non-windhound owner :-)

Rick understood immediately during the first license run what’s about in this sport and I had to run just few times myself when the dogs catch the lure before end line or in case the wire severed to start the dogs once again.

Ricky participated in the Lure Coursing just very rarely when our other activities allowed it. In the Czech Lure Coursing Rules is written that the dog can participate in the official trials till 8 years of age. It means the calendar year when the dog is 8 years old is the last year when the dog can officially compete. With this rule Ricky’s last competition season was in 2006 and he had to finish despite the fact that he is still in the great shape. When we time to time participate in the Lure Coursing with Trey, Ricky is her sparing partner. You can imagine it as they still run together, same route, same conditions but just Trey is getting points for her run, Ricky in official wording just trains. He likes Lure Coursing a lot and I think he sincerely does not care if he gets points or not ;-)
